8Layer Academy is an independent editorial magazine about technology education in the Philippines. It maps the country’s IT training landscape — coding bootcamps, cybersecurity courses, certification schools, free government programs — and documents the community events that hold the scene together, from campus hackathons to open-source meetups.
What the name means
In the OSI network model, layer 7 is the application layer — the top of the technical stack. Layer 8 is the engineer’s joke for what sits above it: the human. This magazine covers layer 8 — the people learning, teaching and competing their way into Philippine tech — and takes the drawing-sheet look of its pages from the same engineering culture.
Editorial approach
Every guide is compiled from public sources: provider pricing pages, government announcements from DICT and TESDA, event organizers’ own publications, and community reports. No school, bootcamp or training center pays for placement in any comparison, and no listing is sponsored. Where a claim couldn’t be verified, it isn’t repeated — the guides say so when the public record runs out.
